Diaspora issues and challenges experienced is a topic close to my heart. As part of the Afghan diaspora, I grew up seeing and experiencing the difficult navigation process and juggling of identities. During my doctoral studies, I aimed to explore this further and through the lens of developmental and narrative psychology. My thesis titled: ' The Process of Identity development in young Afghan 1.5 generation refugees in England: A Narrative Inquiry', looked at the various stories and interesting ways in which the Afghan youth discovered and re-discovered their sense of self as they become refugees and eventually (to some degree) found themselves settled in the UK.
The full doctoral thesis is available to read online on: https://repository.uel.ac.uk/item/8wq48
This page is dedicated to those journeys that many youth have to make within themselves to find a place in society. It is dedicated to those stories and I welcome thoughts, comments and discussions.
I hope that this can become a platform for us from the community to discuss and connect our journeys. Please do feel free to reach out if you have any questions/suggestions. If you are seeking therapy - firstly, well done, this is a courageous step to healing intergenerational trauma. Secondly, you can send an email to discuss this further and find out how therapy can support you in this stage of life.
